About
Dona Maher is an experienced and beloved piano teacher and a member of the New England Piano Teachers’ Association and the South Shore Music Teacher’s Association. Dona brings both passion and experience to her teaching and has an engaging, kind, and motivating approach that inspires students of all ages.
Dona holds a Bachelor of Science in Piano from Towson State University, Maryland where she studied piano performance, piano pedagogy, and piano ensemble. She also holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Studied with Jane Tan, Konrad Wolff, and Wha Kyung Byun.
What to Expect
Each piano lesson is 30, 45, and 60 minutes long and is typically held in the Concert Hall at The James Library & Center for the Arts on their Steinway B Grand Piano. It is a beautiful instrument that reinforces respect for instruments and music. Piano Lessons require focus, attention, and an interest in improving.
Traditional approach educating students to become strong readers who can independently read and interpret their repertoire with confidence.
Achievements
Dona has taught hundreds of students over the past 38 years and is proud to see each and every point of improvement in her students’ piano skills and musicality. Nurturing love and appreciation of music is one of Dona’s hallmarks and she brings a unique and delightful energy to every lesson.
Performances
Students have the opportunity to participate in Winter and Spring Recitals and participation in the recitals is optional. There are also opportunities to perform in the monthly Studio Coffee House, South Shore Music Teacher’s Association recitals, and to participate in the The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams.
Requirements
Piano Lessons require focus, attention, and a strong interest in improving. Dona recommends students commit to practicing every day in addition to attending weekly lessons.
How to Participate
New students are warmly welcomed and no previous experience is necessary. Dona is currently accepting new piano students aged 6 years and older.
